Lowe's, Wal-Mart, Wegmans, Honored for Synching 500+ Suppliers

CHICAGO -- Lowe's, Wal-Mart, and Wegmans were among the retailers recognized yesterday for their achievments in data synchronization at the Data Synchronization Summit 2007.

Held June 6 through June 7 in conjunction with the U Connect 2007 Conference, the Data Synchronization Summit was designed to help companies accelerate their data sync efforts.

"The awards honor companies that have demonstrated leadership in their respecthttp://cms.vnuemedia.com/iw-cc/command/iw.formspub.saveasive industries to further the adoption and implementation of data synchronization," explained Jeanne Iglesias, the Grocery Manufacturers Association's director, supply chain and technology, in a statement. "With the landmark rollout of the price/promotion synchronization standard, we anticipate that the availability of price and promotion information will drive retailer GDSN participation."

The Retailer award winners fell into three levels:

-- Silver (for retailers synchronizing with 200-500 suppliers): Associated Wholesale Grocers, Inc.

-- Gold (for retailers synchronizing with 500-999 suppliers): Supervalu

-- Platinum (for retailers synchronizing with more than 1,000 suppliers): Lowe's, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., and Wegmans Food Markets

Founding sponsors Food Marketing Institute, GMA, and 1SYNC were joined this year by the Alcohol Beverage Industry Electronic Commerce Council and the American Hardware Manufacturers Association as co-sponsors of the event, highlighting the diverse industries actively engaging in data synchronization today.

"With the active participation of leading retailers and suppliers, the Data Synchronization Summit has successfully become a forum for sharing learnings and best practices in implementing and maximizing value from data synchronization," said FMI v.p. of industry and trade development Pat Walsh.

The Data Synchronization Summit also served as a venue in which to collaborate and promote the adoption of standards and Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) for new sectors such as hardlines and health care.
