Lowe’s Market Acquires Super S
Littlefield, Texas-based Lowe’s Market has acquired the San Antonio-based Super S Foods chain, which operates 55 supermarkets in south and central Texas.
Lowe’s operates 90 stores in west Texas, New Mexico and Arizona, and last year reportedly generated sales of about $700 million. Terms of the sale, which was finalized March 23, were not disclosed.
“Customers will begin to see a transformation of products and expansion of departments within the next three to four weeks,” said Lowe’s CEO Roger Lowe Jr. Lowe’s reportedly plans to retain all of Super S’s employees and maintain all current seven-day-a-week store operating hours.
With this acquisition, Lowe’s now operates 145 stores in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.
Lowe’s history dates back to the 1940s, with a candy and sundries distribution business. The Lowe family opened its first grocery store in Olton, Texas, in 1964. Still family owned and operated, the chain currently employs more than 3,300 associates. Lowe’s Markets is serviced by Affiliated Foods in Amarillo, Texas.
