Louisville's ValuMarket Adds Online, Curbside Deliveries

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Five-store ValuMarket here has expanded its curbside and delivery service to all locations. Delivery costs $10.95 within a three-mile radius of any of the stores, plus $1 per mile beyond, the grocer said. Customers may also order groceries online and have them ready for pickup between noon and 8 p.m. seven days a week for $5.95.

The family-owned independent said it launched the service to not only help it distinguish itself from larger competitors, but also as a means to court elder consumers and those with disabilities who might have difficulty with transportation or the physical demands of shopping, according to local reports.

ValuMarkets' Whittington Parkway store has made home deliveries to a handful of customers for 15 years. The service was then expanded about a year ago to any customer who needed it prior to rolling it out to all five stores.

Each store has a different delivery schedule, details of which are available on the company's Web sites. The stores use personal shoppers to fulfill orders, which are scheduled to arrive within a half-hour window. There is no minimum or maximum order size, and curbside pickup and delivery services include all items and honor sales prices and coupons.

ValuMarkets is the largest locally owned grocery chain in the Louisville area.
