Lotus Bakeries Revamps Packaging for Anna’s Thins

This month, Lotus Bakeries introduced new packaging for Anna’s Thins throughout the company’s North American markets. Created by San Francisco-based design firm Turner Duckworth, the revamped packaging (left) is being used for all four Anna’s Thins varieties: Ginger Thins, Almond Thins, Orange Thins and Chocolate Mint Thins.

The logo has been refined and restored, and new photography reinforces the appeal of the Old World cookies and their distinctive flavors.

“We focused on the unique shape and ritual of eating Anna’s cookies,” explained Turner Duckworth Creative Director Sarah Moffat. “The cookie cutter appears to have actually cut the window in the packaging, revealing the cookies inside. We turned a potential negative -- broken cookies -- into a positive, by observing Swedish folklore and inviting people to make a wish.”

“The Turner Duckworth design team has done an excellent job of honoring -- yet energizing -- the look and feel of the original Anna’s Thins, which many have grown to know and love,” added Marco de Leeuw, executive president of Lotus Bakeries North America, also based in San Francisco.

To mark the occasion of the packaging rollout, Lotus Bakeries and Turner Duckworth have designed a special collector’s-edition Anna’s tin, which will be sold for a limited time in all Anna’s Thins 3-package trays at retailers across North America. Consumers can also order the tins at www.annasgingerthins.com.

Made from a century-old secret recipe of the Karlsson family, the cookies are baked in Sweden with all-natural ingredients. Today, more than 1 billion Anna’s Thins are sold around the world, making them the world’s best-selling ginger thins.
