Loblaw Supply Chain V.P. to Resign
TORONTO -- Loblaw Cos., Ltd. said yesterday that its e.v.p., supply chain, Peter McMahon, would leave the company at the end of the year for family reasons. McMahon will relocate to his native United Kingdom, where he’ll take a similar position with a British retailer, Loblaw said.
Loblaw brought McMahon on board earlier this year to streamline its warehouse and shipping system, in hopes of reversing a recent financial slide. The effort of restructuring led to a management shakeup this month: Former president John Lederer departed and was succeed by Mark Foote, previously the company’s e.v.p. handling all procurement and merchandising activities in the general merchandise business. At the same time, Galen G. Weston, son of former chairman W. Galen Weston, became executive chairman. (Story continues below.)
McMahon will continue to serve in his present role for the rest of this year. During this period, he will work closely with Foote, the company said.
Loblaw, Canada's largest food distributor and a leading provider of general merchandise, drug store, and financial products and services, is one of the largest private-sector employers in that country, employing over 135,000 full-time and part-time associates.
The company will seek a replacement for McMahon, a company spokesman said.
