Lithuanian Grocer Piloting Self-Checkout

03/06/2008
IKI, Lithuania's second largest retail grocery chain, is piloting self-checkout units that are integrated with its loyalty program.

The retailer said it is testing NCR FastLane self-checkout units at its store in Vilnius, where the chain is also headquartered. "IKI values customer loyalty and wants to do everything in its power to reduce queues at the checkout," said Aidas Mackevius, IKI's director general. "Self-checkout will change the way people shop in Lithuania while giving IKI a key service differentiator."

The self-checkout units are marketed as "IKI Bee," with the company's honeybee logo highlighted on the consumer interface touchscreen. The solution is designed to accept the retailer's IKI Premium loyalty card, cash, and card payments, and to highlight pricing promotions.

IKI operates 216 stores in Lithuania and Latvia.
