Last Man Sentenced in Shop & Stop Keypad Scam

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The last of the four men sentenced for a PIN pad-tampering scheme in which financial information was stolen from over 200 New England Stop & Shop customers, received six years in prison, according to published reports.

Along with the other defendants, who received similar jail time, California resident Mikael Stepanian will also have to pay back the approximately $132,000 stolen.

At least six Stop & Shop stores in Rhode Island and Massachusetts were targeted in the scam, prosecutors maintained.

The men were arrested in February at a Stop & Shop in Coventry, R.I., after being spotted by alert employees.
