Last Call for 2014 Store Design Contest Entries

Applications are now being accepted for Progressive Grocer’s fifth annual Store Design Contest, which recognizes supermarkets from around the nation that set the standard in overall excellence with innovative design concepts.

Contract firms and in-house store design teams are invited to submit store projects – inclusive of new construction and major remodels – that were completed and open for business from February 2013 through May 2014.

PG will showcase the new slate of Store Design Contest winners in its August 2014 issue, which will be highlighted with virtual store tours and online photo galleries on Progressivegrocer.com.

“Continuously inspired by the significant role supermarkets play in Americans’ lives on a regular basis, we take great pleasure in showcasing innovative store design concepts that enhance the industry's image and improve the shopper experience," notes Meg Major, PG chief content editor. "At the same time, we're also pleased to have a chance to spotlight the industry's talented design teams, whose savvy, skills and keen eyes for detail collectively result in measurable improvements with traffic flow, higher store sales, and more satisfied and engaged grocery shoppers."

Contract design firms and in-house design teams can submit a maximum of two (2) entries per budget category. Winners, runners-up and honorable mentions will be recognized in five budget categories – including for new ground-up construction and store remodeling projects ranging from modest to unlimited – in the following classes:

  • Best Overall Store Design (new ground-up construction, under 50,000 square feet)
  • Best Overall Store Design (new ground-up construction, over 50,000 square feet)
  • Best Remodel (less than $3 million)
  • Best Remodel ($3 million to $6 million)
  • Best Remodel (more than $6 million)

Construction of eligible store designs and remodels must have been completed between February 2013 and May 2014.

There is no entry fee. PG will notify all winners by late July 2014; entries lacking all specified criteria will be disqualified.

Please note: While videos are not required to enter PG’s 2014 Store Design Contest, they are strongly encouraged, not only to help judges accurately assess entries, but also to enable store design teams to showcase their excellence via 360-degree views of winning concept stores.
