Kroger Revamping W. Houston Unit with Latino Influence
CINNCINATI - In response to the growing Hispanic customer base, The Kroger Co. here is redesigning its store in west Houston, Tex. with upgraded features and Latin products, as well as a 75 percent bilingual Spanish staff, according to local reports.
To order to better accommodate the needs and preferences of Latino shoppers residing in one of the largest Hispanic markets in the country, the Kroger store at Interstate 10 and Echo Lane has added an in-store tortilleria, an extended line of Goya food and spices, Gamesa cookies, Barrilitos soft drinks, South American breads and pastries, and Moja cosmetics.

The move by Kroger comes on the heels of the debut of H.E. Butt Grocery Co.'s first Hispanic-themed location in its home state of Texas earlier this week. HEB's new concept, in a 63,000-square-foot remodeled location in the Houston suburb of Pasadena, features a restaurant section offering Mexican and Cuban dishes, among other authentic amenities.
Four additional Mi Tienda locations will open in the state in the near future, according to HEB.
