Kroger Renews with Coinstar

The Kroger Co. here has elected to forego a "change" with a new coin-counting vending machine partner, opting instead to renew a long-term to installation agreement with Coinstar Inc., according to a filing with the U.S. Security and Exchange Commission.

Coinstar, which charges a processing fee to count consumers' change, offers vouchers that are redeemable at stores where the vending machines are located.

The company has 13,500 machines in North American and the United Kingdom, and its vending machines can tally up to 600 coins a minute. The Kroger/Coinstar deal calls for a long-term multi-year contract renewal.
