Kroger Promoting Pet Insurance via Personal Finance Products
CINCINNATI -- The Kroger Co. here is displaying information in more than 2,200 stores chainwide about pet health insurance services from PetFirst Healthcare LLC, as part of a deal between the retailer and the two-year-old Jeffersonville, Ind.-based company.
PetFirst rents shelf space from Kroger to display product information, whereby brochures are placed at checkout lines next to materials for other financial services products such as credit card applications and identity-theft protection currently being marketed under Kroger’s personal finance group, according to local reports.
Kathy Kelly, president of Kroger Personal Finance, was quoted as saying that PetFirst gives the retailer a competitive advantage by allowing it “to offer our customers pet insurance conveniently and at a good value."
Tim McGurk, customer relations manager for Kroger's Mid-South region, was also quoted as saying that the purpose of the chain’s recently added personal finance department "is to provide additional services and products that Kroger has not traditionally offered in the past.”
