Kroger Promotes President to CEO

CINCINNATI - The Kroger Co. today said President and Chief Operating Officer David Dillon, 52, is being promoted to chief executive officer, succeeding Joseph Pichler, 63, who is retiring.

Donnie McGeorge, 48, will succeed Dillon as president and c.o.o. He had been responsible for Kroger's corporate merchandising programs. Kroger also said that W. Rodney McMullen, 42, would be elected vice chairman and a member of the board, McMullen, who has been executive v.p. of strategy, planning and finance, will assume additional responsibilities for management information systems and logistics.

The changes will be made at today's board meeting, the company said.
