Kroger Names RFID Case-Ready Vendor Partner

CINNCINNATTI -- In a move that will likely put its meat suppliers on notice, The Kroger Co. here selected OATSystems to provide middleware software for the pilot test of an RFID-based solution to track case-ready meats through its supply chain.

With a stated goal of improving customer service, selection and value as it continues to look for ways to cut costs and become more competitive in every aspect, Kroger will use the case-ready EPC data to improve inventory quality and availability. The implementation of OATSystems' RFID framework combines temperature tracking, EPC data and RFID that will potentially enable Kroger to improve both its cold and supply chains.

Kroger operates some 2,510 supermarkets and multi-department stores in 32 states, under two dozen local banners including Ralphs, Fred Meyer, Food 4 Less, King Soopers, Smith's, Fry's, Dillons, QFC, and City Market. Kroger also operates hundreds of convenience stores, jewelry stores and other businesses.
