Kroger Moving Detroit Warehouse Ops to Ohio

CINCINNATI -- The Kroger Co. here is ending the service agreement with its main warehouse in the Detroit area, at present owned by Supervalu. Kroger will reportedly shift responsibility for servicing its Michigan stores to a facility the chain operates in Delaware, Ohio.

The Detroit Free Press reports Kroger's current contract with the Livonia, Mich.-based Supervalu warehouse expires in early 2008. It began moving its Michigan inventory to Delaware more than a year ago and expects to move all of it there by the end of March.

Kroger recently established a new Michigan retail division, headquartered in Novi, to focus on its growth in the state and its 138 stores the company currently operates there.
