Kroger Blends Demand Management Software with Automated Ordering

CINCINNATI - The Kroger Co. said it plans to install consumer demand forecasting technology to improve its ability to forecast inventory for individual stores.

The retailer said it will use Walnut Creek, Calif.-based Market6's DemandChain Information Factory Forecast Engine, which has been integrated into its automated store replenishment system to more accurately anticipate customer demand for specific items in stores.

"The Market6 Forecast Engine enables Kroger to improve inventory levels in order to continually satisfy our customers by providing what they want, when they want it," said Christopher Hjelm, Kroger's s.v.p. and c.i.o.

Kroger operates -- either directly or through its subsidiaries -- 2,473 supermarkets and multi-department stores in 31 states under two dozen local banners including Kroger and Kroger Marketplace, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, Food 4 Less, King Soopers, Smith's and Smith's Marketplace, Fry's and Fry's Marketplace, Dillons, QFC, and City Market.
