Kroger and Shell Team Up for Fuel Savings

Kroger Co. recently expanded and revised its customer loyalty reward program in Toledo, Ohio, allowing customers to redeem their points at participating area Shell gas stations.

Customers who accumulate 1,000 Kroger points can save up to $1 a gallon on fuel, ToledoBlade.com reported. Also, the discount is limited to 35 gallons per purchase.

In February, Kroger teamed up with Houston-based Shell to offer the program in the Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio, markets and in Michigan over the summer, and the revised incentive program now reaches into six northwest Ohio counties: Lucas, Wood, Ottawa, Sandusky, Hancock and Seneca. With the new rollout, customers can use their Kroger Plus Card points at 24 metro Toledo Shell stations as well as 17 Kroger gas stations, according to the website.

“Kroger customers now have essentially more than double the number of locations where they can redeem their fuel rewards,” Amy McCormick, spokeswoman for the Cincinnati-based grocer, noted on the site.

McCormick added that the previous program allowed customers a discount of only 20 cents on the gallon and that customers were having trouble redeeming their points before they expired, but with the Shell collaboration and discount increase, the new program is expected to allow more people to redeem their points, according to ToledoBlade.com.
