Kroger and Disney Partner for "Lion King" DVD Promotion

LIVONIA, Mich. and COLUMBUS, Ohio -- With the launch of "The Lion King" on DVD in retail stores Oct. 7, Kroger Great Lakes Division is partnering with Disney to offer shoppers special savings on the animated film favorite. The promotion kicked off Sept. 21 in Michigan and Ohio Kroger stores.

The "Lion King" DVD promotion has two phases of savings for Kroger customers. During phase one -- which began Sept. 21 and will continue until Oct. 18 -- when a Kroger customer purchases a minimum of five to a maximum of 20 eligible products in the store, using a Kroger Plus Card, he or she can accumulate points toward dollars off the purchase of "The Lion King" DVD or VHS (a $19.99 value).

During phase two, which runs from Oct. 7 until Oct. 18, Kroger customers can purchase "The Lion King" DVD or VHS and receive the following items at no additional charge: Orville Redenbacher Popcorn (two-pack, three-pack, or mini-bag), a Minute Maid Hi-C Blast 10-pack, and a Dannon Water six-pack (.5 liter). Shoppers will also receive $2 instant savings on "Lion King" plush animals.

"We?re excited to provide this exclusive 'Lion King' offer in regards to the cost savings available to our customers," said Jon Flora, president, Kroger Great Lakes Division. "The promotion further differentiates Kroger and reinforces our commitment to saving customers money."

"The Lion King" has been digitally remastered with an all-new animated sequence and dynamic home theater Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. It has one new song by Sir Elton John and Tim Rice. The two-disc DVD set contains two versions of the film -- the original theatrical release and the special edition with the new song. It also comes in 3-D animation with DVD menus, games and deleted scenes.
