Kings Super Markets Names New Chairman

PARSIPPANY, N.J. -- As it gets set to expand, Kings Super Markets, Inc. here has named retail veteran James A. Demme chairman of its board of directors, replacing David Roberts, senior managing director of privately held investment firm Angelo, Gordon Co., who will remain on the board as a director.

Demme, part of the investor group that purchased Kings from London-based food and department store retailer Marks & Spencer in April 2006, is a senior adviser to Angelo Gordon and has served as chairman or c.e.o. of such retailers as Bruno's Supermarkets, Shaw's Supermarkets, Homeland Stores, and the Penn Traffic Co.

"Kings has repositioned itself for continued success, and its management team has done a remarkable job, in a short period of time, to accomplish the transition," said Demme in a statement, adding that he would be "involved [in] assisting Kings in executing its growth strategy in partnership with its c.e.o., Bruce Weitz."

"Jim has been a value added partner to me and the entire Kings management team as we build our footprint," noted Weitz.

Kings Super Markets is a 26-store chain with stores serving northern New Jersey and New York.
