Kentucky Indie Gives Ex-Winn-Dixie Unit Fresh Feel

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - ValuMarket, a family-owned grocer serving Louisville, Ky. for more than 28 years, is gearing up for the grand re-opening of a completely remodeled store in Louisville's Highlands neighborhood. The store, which was formerly run by Winn-Dixie and then Buehlers, will open on Oct. 22.

ValuMarket said it completely remodeled the store, which is in a mall, giving it a fresh new look and layout. Construction for the remodel began in July of this year, and the store remained open during the four-month process.

The produce section, expanded to carry some of the more hard-to-find fresh choices -- including organic varieties -- now also faces the mall lobby and opens up to the mall via glass overhead doors. The front end has been completely rotated, with the front doors and cashier stations facing the road.

The deli/bakery department has been expanded and now provides many of the fresh, hot choices of local bakeries and restaurants in addition to ValuMarket's own fresh selections, the independent said. ValuMarket said it has brought together products from some of Louisville's best-known names under one roof. Partnerships include such Louisville institutions as Great Harvest Bread, Blue Dog Bakery, Lotsa Pasta, Tologono, Heitzman Traditional Bakery, Asiatique, Shiraz Mediterranean Grill, and Equus.

ValuMarket also added a beer cave, which it said keeps one of the Highland's largest selections of domestic, imported, and micro-brew beers at a constant 33 degrees at all times.

Also expanded is the natural foods section, which includes a wide variety of the more healthy alternatives many customers prefer.

ValuMarket will be working with the Louisville Originals to provide on-site cooking demonstrations with some of Louisville's most well-know chefs. In-store cooking demonstrations will take place on Saturdays and Sundays throughout October and November.

ValuMarket operates five stores in the Louisville area.
