K-VA-T Food City Gives Over $70K to American Diabetes Association

ABINGDON, Va. -- Regional grocer K-VA-T/Food City has raised more than $70,000 for the American Diabetes Association, the retailer here said on its Web site. The monies were derived from the company's recent ADA Coupon Book sales campaign, the chain said.

The annual promotion, which ran during August and September, featured the sale of specially marked booklets containing over $40 in money-saving coupons. The coupons were for a variety of grocery items and diabetes-related pharmacy products. Booklets were available in all Food City locations for a $1 donation, with the proceeds benefiting the American Diabetes Association.

During the campaign, Food City teamed up with co-sponsors WJHL-TV 11, 96.9 WXBQ Radio, Bristol Herald Courier, and Pepsi in their tri-city division to raise $27,000; and WATE-TV6, Pepsi, B97.5, and the Knoxville News-Sentinel in Knoxville for a grand total of $45,000.

K-VA-T Food Stores operates 94 retail food outlets in the tri-state regions of Southeast Kentucky, Southwest Virginia, and Northeast Tennessee.
