Johnsonville, Nat’l Pork Board Launch ‘No Ordinary Burger Contest’
The first-ever “No Ordinary Burger Contest," hosted by Johnsonville Sausage and the National Pork Board, invites backyard chefs and grillers across the United States create their own version of the classic American dish.
To enter the contest, which runs through Sept. 6, burger fans can visit johnsonville.com/burgercontest to upload their original recipe featuring Johnsonville Brat or Italian Sausage Patties. Six finalists, chosen for their recipes’ perceived taste, creativity and ease of preparation, will compete in the “No Ordinary Burger” grill-off in Bentonville, Ark. One finalist will chosen by online votes, while the other five will be picked by the Johnsonville culinary team.
Two grand-prize winners, selected during the grill-off, will get a year's supply of groceries from Walmart as well as having their recipes printed on Johnsonville Brat and Italian Sausage Patty boxes.
"For more than six decades, Johnsonville has been focused on delivering great flavor," noted Jim Mueller, group marketing manager at Sheboygan Falls, Wis.-based Johnsonville. “These new patties provide a unique way for folks to enjoy the great flavors they've appreciated for years – in a different form. We're really excited to see the different and creative ways people choose to make the flavors all their own, through their recipe entries.”
Johnsonville has come up with a Pizza Burgers! recipe, using its Italian Sausage Patties, for consumers to try at home, and the company and the Des Moines, Iowa-based NPB are offering additional recipes, grilling tips and “creative inspiration” at johnsonville.com and PorkBeInspired.com.
