Jewel-Osco Pharmacy to Provide Wellness Service to Health Plan Members

CHICAGO -- Jewel-Osco Pharmacy, a network of pharmacies providing patient care services in the Chicago metropolitan area, has entered into an agreement with Destiny Health to provide a wellness service, Vitality Check, to The Destiny Health Plan members.

Vitality Check is a health assessment that members are encouraged to take part in so as to learn more about their present state of health. For instance, during a Vitality Check, Jewel-Osco pharmacists would test a member's blood glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels, as well as obtain height and weight measurements to calculate body mass index. Results would be sent directly to The Destiny Health Plan.

"As a network of pharmacies, many people think we only provide for our customers who are in need of care when they're sick, but in fact, like Destiny Health, we are equally committed to their wellness when they're healthy," said Chris Dimos, president, pharmacy operations for Minneapolis-based Supervalu, parent company of Jewel-Osco.

Destiny Health Plan members would receive Vitality Bucks for participating in the Vitality Check program, and for the test results also, depending on how favorable the outcome is; the closer they are to being in the healthy range, the more Bucks awarded.

Fully integrated with the insurance and health savings account portions of The Destiny Health Plan, Vitality enables health plan members to redeem their Vitality Bucks for such Vitality Rewards as airline miles, vacation packages, name-brand merchandise, iTunes.

Participating Jewel-Osco pharmacy locations will charge members $40 for a Vitality Check, and if they have a Preferred Card, they'll get an additional $5 discount. Members will receive the results of their blood tests within minutes of the procedure.

Destiny Health c.e.o. Art Carlos said he hoped the program would "encourage [health plan members] to seek the appropriate measures to obtain their health and fitness goals."

Jewel-Osco pharmacists offer a range of clinical services, among them diabetes care, adult immunizations, health screenings, and medication therapy management (MTM),

Combined, Destiny Health and its parent company, Discovery, are the largest providers of consumer-directed health care in the world.
