Jewel-Osco, An Albertson's Company, Partners With American Red Cross On Fundraising Effort
MELROSE PARK, Ill., Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Jewel-Osco, Midwest Division of Albertson's, Inc. (NYSE: ABS - news), is immediately launching a fundraising effort with the American Red Cross at all store, office and warehouse locations. Donations will be used to aid the victims of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C. and their families. The company has also announced that it will partner with the Red Cross and local blood banks to host blood drives in the communities it serves.
``Jewel-Osco customers and associates want to help at this time of national tragedy,'' said Pete Van Helden, President, ``All 278 stores in the Jewel-Osco network will participate by serving as collection sites for donated funds, and by hosting blood drives.'' Van Helden indicated that Jewel-Osco associates will also be encouraged to participate in the fundraising efforts and blood drives being held at store, office and warehouse locations.
Albertson's, Inc., parent company of Jewel-Osco, will match each dollar collected nationally up to a total of $50,000. ``In addition, our business partner TCF Bank has offered to match each dollar collected at Jewel-Osco up to $50,000,'' Van Helden added, ``With the help of TCF, we hope to raise over $100,000 here in the Midwest to aid the relief efforts.'' The fundraising program will last for a
minimum of four weeks, and customers may donate funds at canisters located at the checkstands of all store locations. Canisters will also be located at all office and warehouse locations.
During its one-hundred year history, Jewel-Osco has been noted for its support of a wide variety of charitable organizations with a focus on education, health & nutrition and hunger relief. In addition, Jewel-Osco associates continue to contribute generously to support the United Way and the communities they serve. In all, over $4 million is contributed each year toward these efforts. It's all
part of Jewel-Osco's ongoing commitment to the community through charitable contributions and various community outreach programs.
