January Freeze Creates Silver Lining for California Berries

WATSONVILLE, Calif. -- As warm weather returns to California's strawberry fields lining California's coastal regions, strawberry growers are buzzing with excitement about the spring crop, according to the California Strawberry Commission (CSC) here.

CSC president Mark Murai says strawberry lovers can credit the January freeze for some of this good fortune, and notes that growers and strawberry lovers alike will be impressed by the abundance of great-tasting berries coming in now. "This is great for everyone," he said, adding that one serving of strawberries has more vitamin C than an orange.
