INNOVATION: Sun Products Bows Technology Center

The Sun Products Corp., which manufactures laundry detergent, fabric softeners, dish care and other household products, including such well-known brands as all, Wisk and Snuggle, last month opened its North American Technology Center in Trumbull, Conn. The 46,000-square-foot site, which employs about 80 people, among them scientists, engineers and packaging designers, augments the company’s research and development facility in Salt Lake City.

“Sun Products’ technology center defines our vision for growth and business excellence, and underscores the importance of technology and innovation,” noted Sun Products president and CEO Neil P. DeFeo. “The center expands Sun Products’ ability to deliver new, innovative products into the marketplace, while also demonstrating our commitment to the community through the creation of jobs and economic growth.”

“Sun Products is making a significant investment in the technology center,” said SVP, research and development, Craig Slavtcheff. “In addition to laboratories and package design facilities, the facility also provides space to interact with consumers and gain their insight on products, which steers future product performance and design.”

To defray some of the costs of establishing the facility, Sun Products received a loan of $1.5 million and job creation tax credits from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development.

With North American headquarters in Wilton, Conn., and the technology center in Trumbull, Sun Products now employs a total of about 200 people across the Nutmeg State. In addition to its portfolio of brands, the company serves as the manufacturing partner for many retailer brand laundry and dish products in North America.
