Indie ValuMarket to Match Wal-Mart, Meijer Programs

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - ValuMarket, a family-owned grocery chain here, said yesterday that its in-store Family Pharmacies will match the value of Wal-Mart's $4 generic drug program, as well as Meijer's free antibiotic program.

Additionally, ValuMarket Family Pharmacies said it will match the value of any other future "discount" program competitors come up with, allowing customers the freedom of one stop for all of their pharmacy needs instead of hopping from pharmacy to pharmacy to get the best of every "discount" program.

ValuMarket's "Match and More" program aims to bring all the discount pharmacy programs under one roof, it said. When a customer brings a prescription for one of the 331 generics offered by Wal-Mart for a $4 co-pay, or a prescription for one of the seven free antibiotics offered by Meijer, customers can receive a ValuMarket gift card for the difference in the co-pay and the competitor's advertised promotion. The gift card is good immediately and can be used on a multitude of things at any ValuMarket location, the independent said.

ValuMarket's pharmacy services include free delivery of prescriptions anywhere in Jefferson County and the Mt. Washington, Ky. area. With advance notice, customers can pull up to the stores' Curbside Direct callboxes -- the same device used by ValuMarket's online grocery service customers -- and a registered pharmacist or certified tech will bring their prescription to them in their waiting car. Customers can also choose to have their prescriptions mailed to them. There is no additional charge for any of these services.

ValuMarket operates three full-service Family Pharmacies in the Louisville area.
