CHICAGO - IGA, the global supermarketer, recently presented two prestigious awards to retailers for overall performance and international excellence.

Copps Distribution (now a division of Roundy's) was awarded the IGA President's Cup for outstanding overall performance in 2000. Copps owns 22 corporate stores (all of which are Copps Food Center IGAs) and serves 38 independent IGA Retailers in Wisconsin.

"Copps is known throughout the IGA System for their excellent stores," said IGA Chairman and CEO Dr. Thomas S. Haggai. "They have hosted IGA Retailers from around the world who are interested in learning best practices and retail knowledge... and we believe it's because Copps exemplifies what IGA's Hometown Proud spirit is all about."

During 2000, Copps IGAs' combined sales increased by 9.5 percent, and square footage increased by an average 9.2 percent. In addition, 82 percent of their IGA's achieved top ratings in IGA's Assessment program, which promotes high levels of operational excellence.

South Australia was awarded the IGA President's Cup for the significant growth they have created over the last year. IGA Distribution - South Australia competed with 36 other distributors from around the world for the honor, which recognizes leadership and innovation in building retail growth.

In 2000 the team grew its number of IGA supermarkets from 33 to 254 stores and increased square footage by 350 percent. The distribution team bolstered a strong retail presence with IGA's private label program, increasing the amount of IGA Brand private label the warehouse stocks from 65 to 193 items. Their total retail sales increased a significant 245 percent, and at the store level retailers enjoyed between 12 and 30 percent increases.

"The global family of IGA is bursting with pride for IGA Distribution -
South Australia, and the momentum they have generated," said IGA's Haggai. "Their organization is committed to IGA from the ground up, and this has helped them build a solid group of profitable retailers."
