Idaho Potato Commission Seeking Spectacular Spud Displays
BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Potato Commission is urging retailers that have done outstanding potato displays to get peeling.
The commission's 14th annual Potato Lover's Month retail display contest is around the corner. The commodity group is raising the stakes this year with plans to award over $150,000 in cash and prizes in February.
The IPC and its 2005 contest partner, Kraft Foods, expect an "appealing" response to the contest, which encourages retailers to display their imagination and creativity in celebration of Potato Lover's Month.
In addition to the prospect of winning cash prizes, every qualified entrant will receive a free portable television with a five-inch screen, valued at $60. Aside from the display contest, retailers have another opportunity to win prizes through an ad contest overlay program. Category managers also have a chance to win a matching prize if their store entry is awarded a prize for first through fifth place.
To enter, retailers need to devise an attention-getting display promoting Idaho Potatoes with Kraft Cheese Whiz and Ranch Dressing. Tie-ins to both products' consumer Web sites (www.idahopotato.com and www.kraftfoods.com) are encouraged. For the ad contest overlay program, retailers can mail a copy of the entire circular that features the Potato Lover's Month Display at their store.
Winners will receive cash prizes ranging from $1,250 for first prize to $100 for 100 honorable mentions. All told, 115 display contest cash prizes will be awarded totaling over $21,000, plus 15 match prizes for category managers, while 30 ad contest cash prizes will be awarded totaling $6,000.
Retailers may obtain entry forms by visiting the IPC Web site, calling the Idaho Potato Commission at (208) 334-2350, contacting their regional representative, contacting their local Kraft representative, or faxing their request to (208) 334-2274 c/o Potato Lover's Contest.
Retailers must provide qualified entries and photos of their respective 2005 displays no later than March 31, 2005. All winners will be notified by April 30, 2005 and can be submitted directly through the Idaho Potato Commission Web site.
