Hormel Hosts Minnesota Hunger Summit

AUSTIN, Minn. -- In an effort to help raise awareness of and fight hunger in its home state, Hormel Foods Co. here will host the first-ever Minnesota Hunger Summit next week.

Hormel said it hopes to bring together relevant groups to discuss the hunger problem from multiple perspectives and to help those groups work together to end hunger in Minnesota. Corporate executives, politicians, religious leaders and non-profit organizations fighting hunger will attend.

U.S. Senator Norm Coleman will speak about the government's role in ending hunger, while Hormel c.e.o. Jeffrey Ettinger will address the private sector's role in hunger alleviation.

Summit participants will respond to information presented in a 2005 survey by Wilder Research for Hunger Solutions Minnesota, which found that the number of people visiting emergency food programs in Minnesota has increased 45 percent since 2001.

The event will take place at The Depot in downtown Minneapolis next Mon., Dec. 4.
