Home Depot to Test C-Store Concept

ATLANTA -- Making an unusual transition from home improvement retailing to gasoline merchandising, Home Depot, Inc. here said it plans to test market convenience stores at four of its Nashville locations by the end of the year.

The stores, which will use the Home Depot name, will sell typical c-store fare such as milk, drinks, and prepackaged food items. A few of the stores will also have car washes, according to published reports.

Home Depot chose the greater Nashville market for the test because of traffic patterns and store customer traffic, a spokeswoman said. The retailer currently operates 10 of its home improvement stores there.

Home Depot has 1,919 stores in 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, 10 Canadian provinces, and Mexico.
