Hershey’s Offers Lasting ‘Bliss’ of a Diamond Necklace

To benefit Young Survival Coalition (YSC) and raise breast cancer awareness, Hershey’s Bliss chocolate has donated a 16.5-carat diamond necklace to be raffled off at YSC’s In Living Pink benefit on May 20 in New York City, and is inviting women to purchase tickets for a chance to own the item.

Costing $25 per chance or $100 for five chances, grand-prize tickets can be bought at www.youngsurvival.org/in-living-pink/diamonds through May 13, as well as at the event itself.

Last year, inspired by the bestselling nonfiction book “The Necklace: Thirteen Women and the Experiment That Transformed Their Lives,” by Cheryl Jarvis, which tells the story of how the women bought and shared the title object, the product line’s “Share the Bliss” contest aimed to create a bond among women across the country through a similar act of sharing. The winner of the In Living Pink raffle will get to keep the campaign’s necklace permanently.

“Hershey’s Bliss chocolate was developed to help women appreciate the joys of everyday life,” noted Anna Lingeris, spokeswoman for Hershey’s Bliss and the Hershey Co. “We saw the real-life story of ‘The Necklace’ as a perfect way to connect women to celebrate life’s bliss. The donation of the necklace to YSC will keep the spirit of the necklace alive by connecting and supporting women that share one common cause.”

The final winner of the Hershey’s Bliss necklace will be drawn at the benefit by the women featured in “The Necklace” and a Share the Bliss contest winner. The product line’s donation of the necklace continues Hershey’s long-standing support of breast cancer organizations. YSC is dedicated to the critical issues unique to young women with the disease.

“Hershey’s Bliss chocolate’s support of Young Survival Coalition helps us to continue to offer outreach programs and services for young women facing breast cancer,” said Jenna Glazer, director of development at New York-based YSC. “Through the brand’s generous donation, we will be able to raise critical funds for the vital programs we provide to our constituency and their families.”

From August through December 2009, the Share the Bliss contest asked consumers to submit stories telling why they wanted to share the necklace. Five women won the opportunity to wear the necklace for two weeks before selecting and passing it on to the next winner. The winners also received Hershey’s Bliss chocolate and a signed copy of “The Necklace.” Each woman described her two-week experience with the necklace in a blog on the Hershey’s Bliss Web site and helped choose the next winner, thereby connecting women across the United States.
