Heinz Opens New R&D Center

PITTSBURGH -- The H.J. Heinz Co. here yesterday opened a 100,000-sq.-ft. international research facility in the northern suburbs that will serve as the company's product development center.

In a statement, William Johnson, Heinz's chairman, president and c.e.o., said the Global Innovation and Quality Center facility will be home to more than 100 chefs, food technologists, researchers and package designers, in addition to experts in nutrition and quality assurance, and will provide technical direction, assistance and advice to Heinz business units worldwide.

Commenting on the new facility, Johnson said: "Heinz will dedicate almost $100 million to strategic innovation activities in North America alone over the next five years."
