HEB Said Launching New Concept in Houston

SAN ANTONIO -- Regional retailer H.E. Butt Grocery Co. here is reportedly launching a new concept that combines the best of its food and drug stores with the more upscale Central Market format, in the Cypress neighborhood of Houston on Oct. 24.

The company did not respond immediately to Progressive Grocer's request for more information yesterday afternoon.

The HEB Cypress Market will be 112,000 square feet and will offer huge fresh departments, according to a report in the Houston Business Journal. In addition to meat and seafood, it will feature more than 900 different fruits and vegetables, at least 2,000 varieties of wines, a bakery, and a cheese shop stocking more than 400 specialty and imported cheeses.

The store will also include Central Market's Cafe on the Run with take-out and catering services, a sushi bar, a coffee roast area, a healthy living department, and a tortilleria, the article said.
