HEB Exec Honored for Excellence in Employee Benefits Management

SAN ANTONIO - Kathy Durbin, director of benefits for H.E. Butt Grocery Co. here, is being recognized with the 2006 Benny Award - Judges' Choice for her proven ability to streamline administration and drive multi-million dollar cost savings on employee benefits.

The Benny Awards, presented by Employee Benefit News and sponsored by VSP, are one of the human resources industry's most prestigious honors. Winners will be formally recognized at an award ceremony during the Benefits Management Forum & Expo in Chicago, Sept. 17-19, 2006.

Durbin is being honored for her pioneering strategies, complemented by her use of Woburn, Mass.-based HighRoads, Inc.'s Benefits Lifecycle Management (BLM) solutions, which has helped HEB deliver competitive benefit offerings for more than 60,000 partners.

Despite continually rising healthcare costs and escalating market pressures in an industry of razor-thin margins, Durbin was able to reverse the trend in benefit contract costs from a 22 percent increase to a 3.7 percent overall decrease, and lower overall benefit administration fees by 18 percent - without any sacrifices in plan quality, according to HighRoads.
