Harveys Exec Named to National MDA Board

Tom Robinson, VP and COO of Food Lion affiliate Harveys Supermarkets, has been named a national VP of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The appointment marks the third year Robinson has served in this position for the organization.

Robinson was elected to the post at the MDA’s July 10 meeting in Los Angeles, at which the board also chose such luminaries as former NFL star Tiki Barber, Anheuser-Busch president August Busch IV, Olympic gold medalist Nadia Comaneci, Casey Kasem, Larry King Harley Davidson president James McCaslin to be VPs.

In 2008, Robinson led Harveys Supermarkets’ over 4,000 associates to raise more than $236,000 for MDA. In 12 years, the banner has raised almost $2 million for the organizaation by selling shamrocks at registers and through an annual golf tournament.

At Harveys, Robinson runs the day-to-day operations of the company’s retail stores and distribution network. In nearly 25 years at Food Lion, LLC, Robinson has been a store manager, grocery buyer, purchasing manager and director of category management. Before joining Harveys, he was VP of retail operations for Food Lion’s Central Division.

Operating 70 stores in Georgia, Florida and South Carolina, Harveys is an affiliate of Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion, LLC, a subsidiary of Brussels based Delhaize Group.
