Harris Teeter, Publix Ink Deals with Western Union

MATTHEWS, N.C. and LAKELAND, Fla. - Harris Teeter, Inc. and Publix Super Markets are among the retailers that have recently struck deals with Western Union Co. for in-store money-transfer services.

Harris Teeter has begun adding Western Union's money-transfer services to its stores and hopes to complete a full rollout at all 153 of its stores by Nov. 8, according to a report in The Business Journal.

Harris Teeter shoppers will be able to send and receive money; send bill payments or prepay for wireless, home phone, or Internet service; purchase a money order; or load funds onto a Western Union Prepaid MasterCard.

Publix Super Markets, Inc., meanwhile, has signed a multiyear renewal agreement with Western Union that will keep its money-transfer services at nearly 900 Publix locations in the Southeast, according to a report in the Orlando Business Journal.

The renewal extends Western Union's existing agreement with Publix through its entire supermarket chain in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
