Harris Teeter Opening 1st Rebranded Lowe’s Store
Harris Teeter’s newest location, scheduled to open in Charlotte, N.C. on Wednesday, Aug. 8, is the first former Lowe’s store to be rebranded as a Harris Teeter supermarket. The 51,000-square-foot Davis Lake location was temporarily closed in June for remodeling, stocking and employee training.
Grand-opening activities will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and such weekend events as an on-site mobile grill and an ice cream truck.
Matthews, N.C.-based Harris Teeter has also introduced various green practices and programs at the store, which now features a white reflective energy-efficient roof, LED lighting on frozen food and dairy case doors, low-flow faucets, motion detection lighting, energy management systems, heat reclamation systems, and encouraging shoppers to use reusable bags and to recycling plastic and paper in the bins placed in front of the store
Among the store’s additional offerings and services are full-service custom floral arrangements; an in-store pharmacy; chef-prepared foods to go; custom cakes and ice cream cakes; a made-to-order sandwich program; Boar’s Head meats and cheeses; organic, natural and specialty foods; wine and imported beers; Western Union; and the chain’s “Express Lane” online shopping program.
In a store-swap deal early last month, Harris Teeter acquired 10 stores from Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Lowes Food Stores, while Lowes got six Harris Teeter locations.
