Hannaford's 'Guiding Stars' Said Heading to 1,500 Stores

Hannaford Bros. has more big plans for "Guiding Stars" -- the regional grocer plans to have the successful nutrition rating program in place at 1,500 stores by the end of the year, according to Hannaford director of healthy living Julie Green in a published report.

Sister chains Food Lion and Bloom are slated to roll out the program in the next few months, Green told The Packer. The program is already available at all 164 Hannaford stores and 112 Sweetbay Supermarket locations. Sweetbay is another Delhaize banner.

Early next year, Green said, Delhaize would introduce the program in its European stores.

Earlier this month, Hannaford revealed plans to create a spinoff company to handle the licensing of Guiding Stars to other retailers, foodservice companies, restaurants, food manufacturers, and even government agencies.

Guiding Stars debuted at Hannaford in 2006.
