Hannaford, Sweetbay Upgrade Assortment and Space Optimization Solutions

SCARBOROUGH, Maine - Following a successful implementation in Food Lion stores, fellow Delhaize Group U.S. banners Hannaford Supermarkets and Sweetbay Supermarkets are upgrading their automated assortment and space-planning optimization solutions.

The two have chosen Chicago-based Galleria Retail Technology Solutions, which Food Lion has been running. Galleria's Automated Micro Assortment Planner and Automated Micro Space Planner will provide customer-centric assortments, communicated through automated store specific planograms, to all Hannaford stores and over 100 Sweetbay stores in Florida, Galleria said.

"We quickly recognized that in order to fully realize the benefits of our strategic investments in price optimization and computer-assisted ordering, we needed to provide our merchandising teams with enhanced assortment-planning and space optimization capabilities," noted Hannaford s.v.p. and c.i.o. Bill Homa.

Since the planograms will be store-specific instead of generic, they will fit each store's particular fixture profile and local performance, thus making it easier for in-store merchandising teams to match local customer demands within their store's physical limitations.
