Hannaford, Sweetbay to Install Touchscreen Payment Terminals

SCARBOROUGH, Maine - Hannaford Bros. Co. here, a unit of Delhaize America, has selected the new consumer-facing VeriFone MX830 as its next generation payment solution. The system, which is equipped with touchscreen signature capture capability, will be deployed initially in new and remodeled Hannaford stores in the Northeast, and in Sweetbay Supermarket stores in Florida.

The MX830 is a new member of the MX800 Series, a product family that's designed to provide a mix-and-match combination of payment devices in multi-lane retail environments. It offers functions including basic debit and credit payment acceptance, as well as advanced capabilities such as electronic signature capture, multimedia branding, contactless payment, and smart card acceptance.

"VeriFone has developed a payment product that meets our needs for the latest in customer-activated capabilities," said Kevin Carleton, director of retail automation with Hannaford, in a statement. "The MX830 provides great graphics in a highly durable form that will meet the rigorous requirements at our checkout counters."
