Hannaford Presents Second Annual Kidz Expo

SCARBOROUGH, Maine -- Hannaford Supermarkets will again serve as the title sponsor for the second annual Hannaford Kidz Expo, to be held on March 3 in Albany, N.Y. The family-oriented festival is free for both parents and children.

During the event Hannaford will provide healthy snacks for guests of all ages, including bottled water, 100 percent fruit juice, fresh fruit, and granola and cereal bars, in addition to information on its in-store nutrition navigation system, Guiding Stars, which the company bills as the first storewide program of its kind.

Hannaford community representative Tara Morgan told Progressive Grocer that the grocer and the New York State Office of General Services created the event, which grew out of the fact that "during the winter season there's not a lot for kids and families to do" in the Greater Capital region of New York state, much of it currently buried under record snowfalls. Morgan believes that the "informative and fun" festival provides "a great service" to the community.

Among the scheduled attractions of Kids Expo are headliner Hot Peas 'N Butter, a popular musical duo; creatures from the "Leaping Lizards" and "Rocking Reptiles" exhibits at the Children's Museum of Science and Technology in Troy, N.Y.; the Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) music video game machine from Radio Disney, which allows kids to bust moves on a giant electronic dance pad; a performance of "Rumpelstiltskin", by Albany's Steamer No. 10 Theatre; The Home Depot's "Designs for Kids" workshops, which offer creative projects and teach children do-it-yourself skills; arts and crafts with Big Yellow Box by Crayola; and bounce rides, clowns, puppet shows, and face painting.

Last year's Hannaford Kidz Expo drew over 8,000 attendees.

Employing more than 26,000 associates, Delhaize-owned Hannaford Bros. Co. operates 158 stores under the Hannaford Supermarket and Hannaford Supermarket and Pharmacy banners.
