Hannaford Bros. to Kick off Fourth Annual Anti-hunger Campaign
SCARBOROUGH, Maine -- Hannaford Bros. Co. here is gearing up to launch its fourth annual Have a Heart for Hunger campaign on Sunday, Feb. 4, to help provide hunger relief to organizations in five states.
The program, which runs until March 3, will help customers at stores in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, and Massachusetts to fight hunger in their areas by making donations as part of their shopping bill. Stores will make donation coupons in $2 and $5 denominations available at checkstands.
Hannaford will donate the proceeds to local food banks.
"This year, high energy costs will send more people to emergency food assistance agencies throughout the region," said Hannaford community relations manager Caren Epstein in a statement. "Through Have a Heart for Hunger, Hannaford associates and customers will have an opportunity to help agencies meet those increasing demands."
The program over three years has raised more than $255,000 for America's Second Harvest agencies. Epstein said that that Hannaford had made "food donations of over 8 million pounds each year."
Delhaize-owned Hannaford Bros. Co. operates 158 stores under the Hannaford Supermarket and Hannaford Supermarket and Pharmacy banners.
