Hain Pure Protein Buys Plainville Turkey Farm
MELVILLE, N.Y. -- Hain Pure Protein Corp. here acquired of Plainville N.Y.-based Plainville Turkey Farm, Inc., the largest turkey grower in the Northeast and a leader in all-natural, antibiotic-free, vegetarian-fed poultry production, and renamed it Plainville Farms.
Hain Pure Protein Corp. (HPPC) is jointly owned by The Hain Celestial Group, a natural and organic products company, and Pegasus Capital Advisors, a private equity firm.
Plainville Farms is the second holding within the HPPC division, joining Fredericksburg, Pa.-based FreeBird, a company purchased in 2005 that makes all-natural, antibiotic-free, organic chicken.
James Reed, a 30-year industry veteran from ConAgra Foods, Inc., Empire Kosher Inc., and most recently, Cameco Inc., will join Plainville Farms as its c.o.o.
Mark Bitz will continue as the company’s strategic planning director. HPPC officials have written to customers and employees stating their intention to maintain all positions and to continue "business as usual."
