Haggen Taps Charlie's Produce as Supplier for Newly Acquired Stores

Pacific Northwest grocery chain Haggen has named Charlie's Produce as its primary supplier for the 146 stores recently acquired as a result of the Alberstons-Safeway merger.

The acquisition, which includes stores in California, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon and Washington, expands Haggen's footprint from 18 to 164 stores, all of which will be serviced by the Seattle produce company.

Following the completion of the deal at the end of the month, Charlie's Produce's new Southern California division will service the 104 stores in California, Arizona and Nevada. The Washington stores will be serviced by the Seattle distribution center, and the 20 Oregon stores by the Portland distribution center.

"This acquisition is an incredible opportunity to introduce Haggen to customers throughout the West Coast," said Bill Shaner, Haggen CEO, Pacific Southwest. "We are a brand that strives to offer guests the best of the region, each season and every day, and Charlie’s Produce shares that commitment."

Founded in 1933, Haggen Inc. is one of the Pacific Northwest's leading grocery chains, operating stores under the Haggen Northwest Fresh banner.
