H-E-B's President to Retire

SAN ANTONIO - James F. "Fully" Clingman, H.E. Butt Grocery Co.'s president and chief operating officer, will retire from the company sometime after New Year's Day, the San Antonio Express-News reports. Company officials made the announcement Tuesday.

Clingman, who was appointed president in 1996, has been regarded for helping H-E-B rank ninth on Forbes magazine's list of largest private companies, with almost $10 billion in sales last year. He also helped move the company into northern Mexico, where it holds more than 20 percent of the greater Monterrey grocery market.

Clingman joined H-E-B in 1975 and rose to the COO position in 1984.

H-E-B spokesman Greg Flores said Clingman's replacement has not been chosen.
