H-E-B Ranks as Glassdoor's 7th 'Best Places to Work'

Buoyed by employee feedback about "great pay, great benefits and the ability to move up," San Antonio-based H-E-B was named by Glassdoor.com as one of the best places to work in America and the United Kingdom as well.

In its seventh annual Employees' Choice Awards, H-E-B – which was cited by one reviewer as "one of the few companies that actually cares" – ranked seventh on Glassdoor.com's "Best Places to Work" rankings, which were based on feedback from "the people who know these companies best - their employees," according to the employment search website.

With more than 340 stores and nearly 76,000 partners, H-E-B has long prioritized the talents and unique skills of its many diverse and dedicated partners, who are credited with providing the regional retailer with a powerful advantage in its extremely competitive Texas home turf, where it has earned a dominant market position largely as a result of its widely admired corporate culture that places a high value on people throughout all levels of the organization.

In addition to H-E-B, other food industry companies that earned a top spot on the Glassdoor.com "Best Places to Work" list include Nestlé Purina PetCare (“Best place I've ever worked”), which ranked at No. 3; Procter & Gamble (“Great and consistent corporate culture..great place to work”), which placed at No. 11; Costco Wholesale (29); and Wegmans (32).

Other top 10 companies on the Glassdoor Best Places to Work list are:

  • Google
  • Bain & Company
  • F5 Networks
  • Boston Consulting Group
  • Chevron
  • In-N-Out Burger
  • McKinsey & Company
  • Mayo Clinic

Unlike other workplace awards, Glassdoor's Employees’ Choice Awards are based solely on input from employees who anonymously and voluntarily provide feedback via the company's review survey, which includes details about employee job satisfaction, work environment, company culture and senior leadership.

"It is this type of authentic feedback that helps others find jobs and companies they love, and allows us to honor employers who stand out for their efforts in providing an enjoyable work environment and culture,” said Robert Hohman, CEO and co-founder of Sausalito, Calif.-based Glassdoor.

The 2015 awards honor companies in three different categories: 50 Best Places to Work – U.S. (recognizing employers with 1,000 or more employees; based on U.S. employee feedback), 50 Best Small & Medium Companies to Work For – U.S. (recognizing employers with fewer than 1,000 employees; based on U.S. employee feedback), and new this year, the 25 Best Places to Work UK (based on UK employee feedback).

Winners are ranked according to their overall company rating achieved during the past year (Ratings based on a 5-point scale: 1.0=very dissatisfied, 3.0=OK, 5.0=very satisfied).
