H-E-B Appoints Chief Strategic Officer

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- H.E. Butt Grocery Co. here has tapped Craig Boyan, a consultant who has worked with the regional chain for the past year and a half, to be its chief strategic officer.

Boyan, 41, has worked at Boston-based international consulting firm Monitor Group LP for the past 15 years. He established the group's New York office, which has become one of Monitor's largest. He most recently served as manager of the New York office.

"Monitor has done an excellent piece of consulting work with us over the last year and a half, and we feel fortunate to have a person of Craig Boyan's experience and strategic skills joining our top team," said H-E-B chairman and c.e.o. Charles Butt, of the appointment.

Boyan's consulting practice covered a wide variety of industries, including consumer packaged goods, retail, pharmaceutical, heavy industrial, automotive, commercial printing, financial, and professional services. He graduated from Harvard College cum laude, and received an MBA with honors from Columbia Business School.

H-E-B, one of the nation's larger independent retailers, operates more than 300 stores in Texas and Mexico with 2004 sales of $11 billion.
