G.S. Gelato to begin serving Winn-Dixie Supermarkets

G.S. Gelato and Desserts, Inc. said last week it would become the sole vendor of authentic Italian gelato and sorbet in 260 Winn-Dixie stores throughout the southeastern United States.

“It is a big step for our company, our brand and gelato in general,” noted Simona Faroni, owner of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.-based G.S. Gelato & Desserts. “Gelato and sorbet have gradually become better known as healthier and tastier alternatives to American ice cream. Winn-Dixie is just the latest to recognize the growing demand for our natural and quality products. We produce several private label brands for large national companies, but this is one of the biggest accounts for the G.S. Gelato brand name.”

Jacksonville, Fla.-based Winn Dixie will carry eight flavors of the manufacturer’s gelato and sorbet in pint sizes, including such bestsellers as Sicilian Blood Orange sorbet and Tiramisu gelato, with the rollout slated to be complete by next month. The grocer operates 513 locations in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia and Mississippi.

According to G.S. Gelato & Desserts, further expansion into more retail stores is possible in the future, although no timetable has been set. The company operates a 26,000-square-foot state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, which is the first of its kind to receive approval from both the Food & Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
