Grocers Offer Veterans Day Discounts
Publix Super Markets, Delhaize America's Food Lion banner and Tops Markets LLC are each providing a discount on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, to current and retired members of the U.S. military, as well as their families.
To qualify for the 10 percent Publix discount, promotion participants must present a military identification card, a veteran identification card, a driver's license with the Veteran designation, or a copy of their DD-214 (discharge document). At Food Lion, active military service members, veterans and their families must present a MVP loyalty card at checkout and request the 10 discount, which will be taken off their entire grocery bill. Those eligible for the 11 percent Tops discount off a total grocery order must present proof that they, or an immediate family member, are a U.S. veteran, or active-duty, reserve or retired military personnel.
"Publix is proud to honor the men and women who serve and protect our country and our freedom," noted Maria Brous, director of media and community relations at the Lakeland, Fla.-based grocer. "We support the military and their families through many programs throughout our operating areas. Publix's Veterans Day discount is an extension of our military support and directly impacts our service families. Our promotion is a small token of appreciation for their everyday acts of bravery. It's one way we can give back."
"Food Lion proudly supports the men and women who are serving our country and who protect our freedoms every day," said Greg Finchum, SVP of retail operations at the Salisbury, N.C.-based grocery chain. "Providing this discount to military and their families is a way for us to honor them and show our gratitude for the many sacrifices they have made for our country."
The Publix discount applies only to items bought on Veterans Day, excluding all gift cards, alcohol, tobacco, lottery items, money services, postage stamps and prescriptions. The Food Lion and Tops discounts are likewise only good for Nov. 11.
