Green Refrigeration System Saves Up to 9,000 Kilowatts of Energy per Year

Structural Concepts’ EnergyWise refrigeration system now includes an exclusive energy-saving hot gas evaporator pan as standard, replacing the traditional energy-hogging electric condensate pan with a more energy-efficient system that uses a byproduct from the refrigeration system (hot gas) to evaporate water from defrost.

According to Muskegon, Mich.-based Structural Concepts, this “greener” technology will save at least 9,000 kilowatts of energy per year in a single display case, and the hot gas system is also more reliable because the hot gas condensate pan doesn’t rely on a float system to tell it to heat up.

In addition, the company said that the EnergyWise self-contained refrigeration system as a whole reduces energy consumption by more than 50 percent, saving 28.7 kilowatt hours per day and up to $1,000 a year in electricity costs.

EnergyWise is the newest generation of Structural Concepts’ Breeze slide-out refrigeration system and is an option on the company’s Oasis open-front refrigerated (CO model) display cases.
